The announcement was made by EACC Chairperson David Oginde in a notice dated Friday, November 22, 2024.
Mohamud’s nomination follows a rigorous recruitment process initiated in September to find a replacement for Mbarak, whose term is coming to an end.
“After a competitive recruitment process, Mr. Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, MBS, has been selected as the nominee for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,” Oginde stated.
The nomination will now be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval as required by law.
Mohamud, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, has over three decades of experience in law enforcement and corruption investigations.
He began his career in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector with the Kenya Police Service and later joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC), now EACC, in 2005.
Rising through the ranks, he has served in key roles, including Director of Investigations and Deputy CEO.
With a Master of Science in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester and a Bachelor of Laws from Mt. Kenya University, Mohamud has undergone extensive training in corruption and economic crime investigations both locally and internationally.
The EACC advertised the CEO position on September 17, 2024, attracting 172 applicants by the October 7 deadline.
Following initial reviews, 14 candidates were shortlisted, and their names published on October 11. Interviews were conducted from November 19 to 21.
Among those shortlisted were notable professionals from diverse fields, including Stephen Maisha Ngowa, Doreen Nkatha Muthaura, and Victor Omari Okongo.
