Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were unveiled today, sparking nationwide celebrations.

Among the notable stories is that of Mark Kibet from Kapsabet Boys, who achieved straight A’s in all subjects.

His sister, Patricia Tonui, took to her X page to share the joyous news: “Anyways since it’s also on papers. Brother really showed off with these grades 🔥. My dad is smiling in heaven I know.”

Her heartfelt tribute resonated with many, as it not only celebrated academic success but also honored the family’s journey.

Another celebratory post came from EALA MP Kanini Kega, whose son achieved an A- in the KCSE exams.

Kega’s joy was evident as he shared the achievement, joining the growing list of parents and relatives praising their children’s hard work and dedication.

The 2024 exam results significantly shift Kenya’s educational landscape, with more students achieving top grades.

The number of candidates who scored a mean grade A rose from 1,216 in 2023 to 1,693 in 2024, reflecting a steady increase in the country’s top achievers.

Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba attributed the improved performance to the newly implemented grading system introduced in 2023.

The changes have seemingly yielded positive results, with the number of students qualifying for direct university entry (grade C+ and above) climbing to 246,391—representing 25.53 per cent of all candidates.

This is up from 201,133 (22.27 per cent) in 2023.

The data also revealed that a larger proportion of students are scoring higher grades overall.

The number of candidates with a C- grade or better increased significantly, from 44.2 per cent in 2023 to 49.41 per cent in 2024.

Additionally, the proportion of students with a D+ or higher rose from 58.22 per cent to 62.76 per cent, showing continued academic improvement.

Despite the positive trend, the number of candidates who attained the lowest grade, E, remained notable at 48,333.

Of this group, 20,112 were women, and 28,221 were men.

As Kenyans share their stories of success, the national mood is one of pride, with many looking forward to the bright futures of those who have passed the milestone of secondary education.
