Addressing the nation during the swearing-in ceremony of his Deputy, Kithure Kindiki, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), President Ruto expressed his alarm at the disturbing trend of brutal murders targeting women.
“We are witnessing tragic cases of our mothers, daughters, and sisters falling victim to senseless violence. This must stop,” he said, emphasizing the need for decisive action. “The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and all investigative bodies in Kenya must confront these criminals head-on and bring them to justice without compromise.”
President Ruto also urged citizens to exercise caution, especially around strangers, and to actively safeguard the vulnerable.
He cautioned against individuals who prey on women and girls by luring them into unsafe situations, often with deadly consequences.
“As a society, we must remain vigilant. We must be wary of strangers and those who lure our loved ones into situations where their safety is compromised,” Ruto said, calling for collective responsibility from all Kenyans to protect and report any suspected perpetrators.
The President’s remarks come amid mounting public outcry over the increased incidences of femicide and gender-based violence, with rights groups urging the government to strengthen preventive measures and enforcement.
