Police, DCI Officers Deployed Near MP Mukunji’s Home

Date:

EMBU, Kenya- Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers have been deployed to Mutunduri, near the home of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, amid reports that authorities are preparing to arrest the legislator.

The deployment has been confirmed by a Y News reporter, although police have not disclosed whether an arrest warrant has been issued or explained the offences for which Mukunji is being sought.

The security operation follows Saturday’s violence outside Nembure Stadium during a UDA meeting attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other party officials.

The National Police Service confirmed that one person died, several others were injured and six vehicles were torched during the confrontation. Several people were arrested at the scene.

Eastern Regional Police Commander Stephen Chebet said the DCI had assembled a special team to investigate the violence and identify those responsible.

He said three police officers and a civilian were injured during the clashes.

Mukunji has denied organising the violence, saying he was being blamed because of his political position and support for residents on contentious local issues.

The operation around Mutunduri remains underway, with further details about the reported arrest plans yet to be released.
