NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Police Service (NPS) has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the violent attacks that occurred at Keumbu along the Kisii–Keroka Road, bringing the total number of arrests to seven as investigations intensify.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NPS said the ongoing security operation is being led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Keumbu and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii Central.

The latest arrests form part of efforts to establish those responsible for the violence that disrupted public order in the area on Friday.

As part of the investigations, the police also confirmed that Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has been summoned to appear before the DCI offices in Kisii County.

The service said the legislator is required to record a statement in connection with the ongoing investigations. However, police did not disclose the specific allegations or indicate whether the MP is being treated as a suspect or a witness.

Investigations Continue

According to the NPS, detectives are pursuing additional leads to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other individuals who may have participated in the attacks.

“Investigations remain ongoing as the Service continues to pursue further leads in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” the statement said.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that anyone found responsible for acts of violence or destruction would face the full force of the law.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

The National Police Service urged members of the public to continue cooperating with investigators by providing any information that could assist the probe.

Citizens with relevant information have been encouraged to report to the nearest police station or use the emergency numbers 999, 911, or the DCI’s toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 (Fichuakwa DCI). Information can also be shared through the DCI’s WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.

The Keumbu incident is the latest security concern to emerge in Kisii County, with authorities maintaining heightened operations as investigations continue.

Police have not yet announced the charges facing the seven suspects, and the outcome of the investigations will determine whether criminal prosecutions will follow.
