Former Kenya Lionesses head coach and Nakuru RFC player Felix Oloo has died in a grisly road accident in the United States.
Reports indicate that he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 405 in Bothell, Washington, early Monday morning.
Mourning his death, the Kenya Rugby Union described Oloo, popularly known as “Ade” or “Mwalimu,” as a key figure in the development of both grassroots rugby and women’s rugby in Kenya.
He was widely respected for his leadership, mentorship, and long-standing commitment to growing the sport both on and off the field.
Oloo’s career at Nakuru RFC spanned about 15 years, from 2003 to 2017.
During this period, he was part of successful squads that won Kenya Cup titles in the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons, as well as lifting the Enterprise Cup and competing in major domestic tournaments including the Bamburi Super Series.
After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching, taking charge of both the men’s and women’s teams at Nakuru RFC.
He was particularly noted for rebuilding structures and nurturing young talent within the club.
His influence later extended to the national level, where he served as head coach of the Kenya Lionesses 7s and 15s teams.
Under his guidance, the team achieved historic milestones, including qualification for the Tokyo Olympics and participation in major international competitions such as the Africa Women’s tournaments, the Dubai 7s Invitational, and the Elgon Cup.
Oloo will be remembered for playing a central role in elevating women’s rugby in Kenya to the international stage.
