Ruku Calls for Ukambani Unity as Government Seeks Stronger Development Partnerships

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called on leaders and residents of the Ukambani region to embrace unity and collective action to accelerate development and strengthen community welfare.

Speaking during a meeting with the Akamba Council of Elders on Saturday, Ruku underscored the importance of cooperation among political, community, and traditional leaders, saying unity remains a critical pillar for sustainable development and social progress.

The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting peace, inclusivity, and citizen participation in governance, noting that meaningful development can only be achieved when communities work together toward shared goals.

“The government remains committed to fostering peace, development, and cooperation for the benefit of all citizens. We will continue working closely with traditional leadership structures to build a resilient and united nation,” Ruku said.

He emphasized the role of elders in preserving social cohesion and guiding communities, urging them to maintain close collaboration with government institutions in advancing both regional and national development priorities.

Ruku said traditional leaders remain important partners in promoting dialogue, resolving conflicts, and mobilizing communities to participate in development initiatives. He added that strengthening ties between government and community leadership would help ensure that development programmes effectively address local needs.

The Cabinet Secretary’s remarks come at a time when leaders across the Ukambani region have increasingly been urged to put aside political differences and focus on development issues affecting residents, including infrastructure, employment opportunities, water access, and service delivery.

During the meeting, members of the Akamba Council of Elders pledged to continue supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability within the region.

The General Secretary of the Akamba Clans Governing Council of Elders, Davis Maeke, commended the government for what he described as improvements in service delivery across key sectors.

Maeke said government interventions in various areas had begun yielding positive results and expressed optimism that continued collaboration between national leaders and local communities would enhance development outcomes.

He further urged leaders to prioritize the interests of citizens and work together in addressing challenges facing the region, emphasizing that unity among stakeholders would create a stronger foundation for economic growth and social transformation.

As the country pursues its national development agenda, Ruku said cooperation between government agencies, elected leaders and community institutions will remain essential in ensuring that no region is left behind in the quest for inclusive growth and prosperity.
