Shakira is officially back on football’s biggest stage and this time, she is bringing Burna Boy with her.

The global music stars have teamed up for “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the first teaser of the song already sending football and music fans into a frenzy online.

On May 7, Shakira unveiled a 67-second preview of the track across her social media platforms, giving audiences a glimpse into what could become the soundtrack of the next World Cup season.

The teaser features the Colombian superstar performing at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracanã Stadium, surrounded by dancers dressed in the colours of different national teams.

The upcoming anthem blends Shakira’s signature Latin pop sound with Burna Boy’s globally celebrated Afrobeats style, creating a multicultural football anthem designed to match the global spirit of the tournament.

The full song is expected to be officially released on May 14, ahead of the tournament buildup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by United States, Mexico, and Canada beginning June 11, 2026.

The title “Dai Dai” carries its own stadium energy. The phrase is an Italian expression loosely translated to “Come on, come on,” often heard in football chants used to motivate players and fans during matches.

The teaser video also reveals several symbolic football references. Shakira is seen holding the “Trionda,” the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while singing in both English and Spanish.

The visuals lean heavily into football culture, unity, rhythm, and celebration which are all trademarks of successful FIFA anthems from previous tournaments.

For Shakira, “Dai Dai” marks another major chapter in her long-standing relationship with the World Cup. The singer previously dominated global charts with “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” the official anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

More than a decade later, “Waka Waka” remains one of the most successful football songs ever released, still played in stadiums, tournaments, and sports celebrations worldwide.

Shakira also contributed “La La La (Brazil 2014)” during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, further cementing her place as one of football’s most recognisable musical voices.

Burna Boy now becomes the second Nigerian artist to feature on an official FIFA World Cup anthem after Davido appeared on the 2022 World Cup soundtrack for the tournament in Qatar.

Online reactions to the teaser have already been intense, with many fans describing the collaboration as a potential successor to “Waka Waka.”

The teaser’s release comes at a time when global football anthems are under increasing scrutiny, with fans often comparing new songs to classic World Cup tracks that defined earlier eras of the tournament.

Songs like Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), Wavin’ Flag, and La Copa de la Vida remain fan favourites years after their release.
