NAIROBI, Kenya, May 10 – Tension gripped Milimani Estate in Kitale early Monday morning after detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), backed by a heavy contingent of anti-riot police, raided the residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Videos circulating on social media showed police vehicles barricading the main entrance of the Governor’s home, with armed officers standing guard.
The nature of the operation remains unclear, with no official communication from the EACC or police.

Earlier, his supporters gathered at the Governor’s residence in an attempt to block the raid.
The vehicles carrying the detectives bore the brunt as the residents deflated their tires, rendering them immobile.
Police were also forced to lob teargas at the gathering masses.
Natembeya, known for his bold stance against the Kenya Kwanza administration, has become a vocal critic of what he terms “widespread corruption and poor governance” in national leadership in recent months.

His allies have condemned the raid, terming it politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate dissenting voices.
“Such Moi tactics won’t work in the current life. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” said DAP party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Other leaders have also condemned the raid at Natembeya’s homes.
