Uhuru Kenyatta Presides Over Kabarak University’s 21st Graduation Ceremony

Date:

NAKURU, Kenya — Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday presided over Kabarak University’s 21st graduation ceremony, marking a key milestone for the institution as 2,390 students were conferred with degrees and diplomas.

Mr Kenyatta arrived at the university accompanied by KANU Chairman and Kabarak University Chancellor Gideon Moi.

He served as the chief guest at the ceremony, which brought together graduands, faculty members, parents, and invited guests at the private institution founded by the late former President Daniel arap Moi.

In a brief address, the university leadership described the graduation as a celebration of academic excellence, leadership development, and service, values that the institution says continue to define its mission more than two decades after its establishment.

Kabarak University Chancellor Gideon Moi congratulated the graduands, urging them to uphold integrity, professionalism and public service as they transition into the job market and wider society.

“This ceremony marks the culmination of years of discipline, sacrifice and commitment by our students, and the beginning of their responsibility to society,” he said.

The former President’s presence underscored his continued engagement with education and youth development initiatives since leaving office in 2022. Mr Kenyatta has in recent years maintained a low public profile but remains active in education, peace-building and regional diplomacy.

Founded in 2000, Kabarak University has grown into one of Kenya’s leading private universities, offering programmes in law, medicine, engineering, education, business and theology. University officials noted that the institution continues to expand its academic offerings while investing in research and innovation.

The graduation comes amid growing national debate on the employability of university graduates and the need to align higher education with market demands, particularly in science, technology and professional training.

For the class of 2025, university officials said the focus now shifts from academic achievement to practical contribution, as the graduates prepare to join Kenya’s workforce and global professional community.
