Malala Denies Rift With Gachagua, Affirms Loyalty

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has dismissed reports of a fallout between him and party leader Rigathi Gachagua, insisting that the two leaders remain united as they work to strengthen the opposition outfit ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public engagement over the weekend, Malala sought to put to rest speculation that had emerged in recent weeks regarding alleged leadership wrangles within the party.

“I want to say here, I have no problem with my party leader and I am the deputy party leader of DCP. We are together as a party,” Malala said.

His remarks come amid growing political debate following reports suggesting disagreements within the party leadership over strategy and the direction of the opposition movement led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Malala maintained that DCP remains focused on building a strong national political movement and offering Kenyans an alternative leadership platform ahead of the next elections.

The former Kakamega Senator said party leaders were committed to working together and dismissed claims that internal differences were threatening the party’s cohesion.

The clarification comes as DCP continues to expand its presence across the country, particularly in the Mt Kenya region and parts of Western Kenya, where the party has been actively recruiting members and holding grassroots mobilisation meetings.

Political observers have closely monitored the relationship between Gachagua and key party officials following the launch of DCP earlier this year, with any signs of internal divisions likely to attract public attention given the party’s growing influence within opposition politics.

Gachagua has repeatedly presented DCP as a vehicle for national unity and economic transformation, positioning it as a major player in the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

Malala’s statement is expected to ease concerns among supporters and reinforce the message of unity that party leaders have sought to project as they continue building their political structures across the country.
