NAIROBI, Kenya — Samidoh, Kenya’s Mugithi star with a badge, is once again making headlines—but this time, not for his vocals.
Days after the National Police Service (NPS) declared him a deserter, the singer-cop was spotted shaking hands with none other than former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i—in the United States.
Photos circulating online from Wednesday, June 11, show the two meeting outside what appears to be a restaurant.
The singer is currently on a US tour that runs until July 14, where he’s scheduled to perform in multiple cities.
According to an internal police memo dated June 9, 2025, Samidoh—officially known as Constable Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki—was expected back at his post on May 27 after approved leave. But he never reported in.
The National Police Service has already taken disciplinary steps. His salary has been stopped with immediate effect, and his desertion will be published in the upcoming issue of the National Police Gazette.
Authorities also directed Stockpol MTD Company, his parent unit, to initiate further administrative action.
Meanwhile, the optics of Samidoh’s international rendezvous aren’t helping. His appearance with Matiang’i—who is reportedly aligning himself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for a 2027 political play—adds fuel to a narrative that Samidoh may be dabbling in high-stakes politics.
Although the singer hasn’t publicly pledged allegiance to any political faction, he recently made waves after hinting at support for a one-term presidency during a performance—just days after meeting Deputy President Kithure Kindiki alongside fellow Mt. Kenya musicians in Karen.
