MIGORI, Kenya-Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has called for increased support for women’s economic empowerment, education, healthcare and voter registration, while urging residents of Migori County to back President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
Speaking during an engagement with women’s groups and residents in Suna East Constituency on Saturday, Omollo said empowering women remains central to the government’s agenda of improving livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic development.
He commended women in the constituency for forming groups and undertaking income-generating activities, saying economically empowered women contribute to stronger families and more resilient communities.
Omollo also highlighted the government’s investment in education, noting that the sector continues to receive the largest allocation in the national budget.
He said the recruitment of more than 100,000 teachers in less than three years demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality education.
“We do not want any child to miss the opportunity to learn because of a lack of teachers. That is why the Government continues to invest heavily in education to secure the future of our children and our country,” he said.
The Principal Secretary urged residents who have not registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) to do so, saying the programme is helping millions of Kenyans access healthcare without facing financial hardship.
According to Omollo, more than 54 per cent of Migori County residents have already enrolled under SHA.
He also welcomed recent reforms that have simplified access to national identity cards, saying the changes have enabled more Kenyans to obtain identification documents and access government services.
Omollo encouraged eligible residents to register as voters, noting that nearly one million people in the Nyanza region possess national identity cards but are yet to register with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He said expanding voter registration would strengthen citizens’ participation in democratic processes.
The Principal Secretary later shifted to politics, expressing confidence that President William Ruto would secure a second term in office.
“So that when we go to the elections next year, the re-election of President William Ruto will no longer be in question. It will be a guarantee, so that he can continue the transformation that he has started and that he is undertaking in the Republic of Kenya,” Omollo said.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving security and public service delivery, saying peace and stability remain critical to economic growth and development.
The meeting brought together local leaders, women’s groups and residents to discuss development priorities, government programmes and opportunities to improve livelihoods across Suna East Constituency.
