NAIROBI, Kenya – As the nation reels from the horrifying discovery of multiple women’s bodies at an abandoned quarry in Mukuru kwa Njenga slums, detectives are intensifying their investigation efforts.
The shocking incident has sparked widespread outrage and a desperate call for justice, prompting detectives “to leave no stone unturned” in their quest to uncover the truth.
The Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, has revealed that the investigation is exploring three primary angles: the involvement of a cult, the possibility of serial killers, and the role of rogue medical practitioners.
This multifaceted approach, the DCI said on Sunday, underscores the complexity and urgency of the case, which has gripped the attention of the nation.
“We have deployed our best investigators,” DCI boss Amin assured during a press conference.
“We are looking into every possible lead to ensure that we bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.”
So far, at least eight bodies have been retrieved from the quarry.
The victims, all women aged between 18 and 30, have not been identified.
Samples from their bodies have been taken for forensic analysis, a crucial step in uncovering the circumstances surrounding their deaths and their identities.
The acting Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, emphasized the commitment to transparency in the investigation.
He invited human rights defenders and journalists to be part of the scheduled autopsy, aimed at determining the cause of death for each victim.
“We want to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that the public has confidence in our process,” IG Kanja stated.
Despite the intense scrutiny, detectives have yet to disclose whether they have specific leads or suspects.
The discovery of the bodies has ignited a wave of anger and grief across Kenya, with many citizens demanding swift and decisive action.
President William Ruto and other national leaders have condemned the killings, echoing the public’s call for justice.
The police have appealed to the residents of Kware and the broader Kenyan public to remain calm and patient as the investigation unfolds.
“We urge everyone to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed without interference,” IG Kanja said.
“Our goal is to ensure justice for the victims and their families.”
As the investigation continues, the DCI has promised regular updates to keep the public informed.
The forensic examination of the samples taken from the bodies is expected to provide critical insights, potentially leading to breakthroughs in the case.
