KUWAIT, Kuwait — A drone attack struck fuel storage tanks at Kuwait International Airport early Wednesday, triggering a large fire and disrupting operations near the airfield, authorities said.
The Kuwait Civil Aviation Authority said emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the blaze, adding that no casualties had been reported.
Preliminary reports indicate that fuel storage facilities were directly hit, causing a significant fire that lit up sections of the airport complex.
Authorities said the incident disrupted operations in the vicinity but did not immediately confirm the extent of damage to other airport infrastructure.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the drones involved were linked to Iran, describing the strike as part of a broader pattern of regional attacks targeting Gulf energy and transport infrastructure.
Emergency crews moved quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to other critical facilities, including fuel depots and operational areas.
The incident highlights growing security concerns around key infrastructure across the Gulf region, where airports, oil facilities, and logistics hubs have increasingly been viewed as vulnerable to drone-based attacks.
Officials said investigations were ongoing to determine the origin of the drones and assess the full impact on airport operations.
