NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested four suspects, including two foreign nationals, following an intelligence-led operation targeting alleged narcotics trafficking in Nairobi.
According to the DCI, the operation was conducted at Denluck Apartment on Tuesday evening after investigators acted on intelligence reports linking the premises to suspected drug-related activities.
The suspects were identified as Gabriel Moses Mathai, 26, Gerald Otieno, 28, Danilo Pejevic, a 25-year-old Serbian national, and Lukundo Samuel Sikombe, a 25-year-old Tanzanian national.
Suspected narcotics recovered
The DCI said detectives raided the residence at approximately 7.30 pm and recovered quantities of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a bluish basin and a black polythene bag.
Investigators also seized several items believed to have been used in the processing, packaging, and distribution of narcotic substances.
The recovered items included a weighing scale, a pair of scissors, three lighters, Rizla rolling papers, a crusher, rolling materials, and multiple small envelopes allegedly used for packaging narcotics for distribution.
Suspects held pending investigations
Following the operation, the four suspects were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station, where they remain in custody pending the completion of investigations and their arraignment in court.
The DCI stated that all recovered exhibits were transferred to its headquarters for documentation, safe custody, and forensic analysis.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional suspects are being pursued or whether the operation forms part of a wider investigation into an organized trafficking network.
Anti-narcotics crackdown
The latest arrests come amid ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the trafficking and abuse of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances across the country.
In recent months, anti-narcotics detectives have intensified intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug distribution networks in major urban centres, including Nairobi and Mombasa.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and called on members of the public to continue providing information that may assist ongoing investigations.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in the fight against trafficking and abuse of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and continues to urge members of the public to volunteer information that may aid ongoing operations against the vice,” the agency said.
The suspects are expected to be presented before the court once investigations are concluded and any forensic examinations of the recovered substances are completed.
