DCI Arraigns Child Trafficking Suspect as Detectives Rescue 22 Girls in Mombasa

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya — Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives have rescued 22 girls and arraigned a 27-year-old suspect linked to an alleged child trafficking and sexual exploitation syndicate operating in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

The suspect, Almasi Rama Amos, appeared before the Shanzu Law Courts after an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit alongside officers from the Regional Criminal Investigations Office in Mombasa.

According to the DCI, investigators had been pursuing the suspect for weeks following reports of abuse targeting vulnerable young girls.

Detectives Raid Suspect’s Hideout

Detectives tracked the suspect to a house in Nguu Tatu Estate within the Concordia area of Kisauni Sub-County, where he was allegedly found with three juvenile girls.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly operated so-called rescue centres across Mombasa and Kilifi under the guise of mentoring and supporting young girls.

However, detectives believe the facilities were instead being used for sexual exploitation and abuse of minors.

During further investigations, officers were led to another facility in Ribe, Rabai Sub-County, where they rescued 19 more girls.

The rescue brought the total number of victims recovered during the operation to 22.

Serious Charges Filed

The suspect now faces multiple charges, including child trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, promotion of child trafficking, defilement, and child abuse.

He pleaded not guilty before the court.

The court denied him bond and ordered that he remain in custody pending further proceedings.

The matter is scheduled for mention on June 8, 2026.

In a statement, the DCI said it remains committed to dismantling trafficking networks and protecting children from abuse.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains committed to protecting children from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking, and individuals involved in such heinous crimes will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice,” the agency stated.
