NAIROBI, Kenya — A new opinion poll by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) has revealed a significant rise in support for the Democratic Change Party (DCP), highlighting shifting political loyalties ahead of Kenya’s next general election cycle.
According to the survey findings released on Thursday, DCP support increased from 9pc in September 2025 to 16pc in May 2026, making it one of the fastest-growing political parties in the country despite having limited visibility during the 2022 General Election.
The poll suggests the party is increasingly attracting voters seeking alternatives to Kenya’s traditional political formations amid changing political and economic dynamics.
Analysts say the rise reflects growing voter dissatisfaction with established parties and signals a broader political realignment that could influence future coalition-building and electoral competition.
The survey also showed declining support for the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), whose popularity dropped from 38pc in August 2022 to 17pc in May 2026.
Support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) also declined during the same period, falling from 32pc to 18pc.
Meanwhile, other opposition and legacy parties recorded moderate gains. The Jubilee Party rose from 5pc to 11 P.c, while Wiper Democratic Movement support increased from 4pc to 9pc.
The poll further highlighted the continued presence of a large bloc of undecided voters, although the number declined from 43 P.c in September 2025 to 23 P.c in May 2026, suggesting gradual voter consolidation as political alignments begin to take shape.
Political observers say the changing trends may point to deeper frustrations among voters over governance, economic challenges, and political leadership, particularly as parties begin positioning themselves for the next electoral contest.
The growing support for DCP is expected to intensify political calculations around alliances and coalition strategies in the coming months, especially if the party maintains its upward trajectory.
