NAIROBI, Kenya — Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has signed a revised Host Country Agreement between the Government of Kenya and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), reaffirming the country’s commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and sustainable development.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Railways Headquarters in Nairobi.

Mudavadi said agriculture remains central to Kenya’s economic transformation, food security and the livelihoods of millions of citizens, noting that stronger partnerships are essential to modernising the sector.

“Agriculture remains central to Kenya’s economic transformation, food security and the livelihoods of millions of our people. Strengthening partnerships that accelerate agricultural innovation is therefore an investment in our nation’s future,” he said.

According to Mudavadi, the revised agreement provides a stronger legal and institutional framework for AATF’s operations in Kenya, further cementing the country’s position as a regional hub for agricultural research, technology and innovation.

He said the partnership is expected to accelerate the adoption of modern farming technologies while supporting efforts to improve productivity and strengthen food systems.

“Through this partnership, we will accelerate the adoption of modern farming technologies, empower smallholder farmers, strengthen food systems and improve agricultural productivity,” Mudavadi stated.

He added that the collaboration would help increase farmers’ incomes, enhance national food security and improve resilience to climate change while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

The revised Host Country Agreement is expected to facilitate AATF’s operations in Kenya by providing an updated legal framework to support its programmes aimed at promoting agricultural technologies across Africa.

Kenya has increasingly positioned itself as a regional centre for agricultural innovation, with the government pursuing partnerships that promote climate-smart agriculture, technology transfer and improved crop productivity as part of its broader food security agenda.

The signing comes as the government continues to seek investments and partnerships aimed at transforming agriculture into a key driver of economic growth, job creation and rural development.
