Police Arrest One Terror Suspect in Nairobi

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Police in Nairobi have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of involvement in terror-related activities, recovering materials believed to be components for making explosives.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect—whose identity has not yet been disclosed—was apprehended late Tuesday night by officers on patrol from Kamukunji Police Station.

The arrest occurred shortly after 11 p.m. when the suspect’s “evasive and erratic behaviour” raised suspicions, prompting the officers to stop and question him.

“A subsequent search of a bag in his possession revealed 21 detonators, 21 packets of suspected ammonium nitrate, a five-meter electric cable, and other assorted items,” the police report stated.

The suspect has since been handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further interrogation as investigations continue.

Police did not indicate whether the suspect had links to any known terror networks, but noted that the operation reflects ongoing vigilance by law enforcement in Nairobi amid heightened security alerts.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as the country continues to grapple with threats posed by extremist groups operating in the region.
