NAIROBI, Kenya—President William Ruto has made yet another change to his Cabinet, assigning his Cabinet Secretaries to key positions in acting capacity.

This is after President Ruto made fresh cabinet nominations, bringing several former politicians back into government.

“Following the changes effected within Cabinet on December 19, 2024, and as the Cabinet Secretary nominees undergo the requisite parliamentary approval process, His Excellency the President has assigned acting Cabinet Secretaries to the vacant ministerial positions,” reads a statement from State House, Kenya.

“In that regard, it is notified that the Head of State and Government has, under Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, assigned the vacant ministerial portfolios to the following Cabinet Secretaries in an acting capacity, as stated.”

Who are the assigned Cabinet Secretaries

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi (Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy) and Aden Duale (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development), while Salim Mvurya will lead the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry.

On December 19, 2024, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced that President Ruto had nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy.

Kabogo is set to take over the ICT portfolio from Margaret Nyambura, who was nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana.

The return of ex-Health CS Mutahi Kagwe

Meanwhile, Mutahi Kagwe, who previously served as Health Cabinet Secretary under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, was nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.

Kagwe will take over the agriculture portfolio from Andrew Karanja, who was nominated as Kenya’s ambassador to Brazil.

Also, former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry. This position was previously held by Mvurya, who was moved to the Sports Ministry. The position will become vacant following the appointment of Kipchumba Murkomen as Interior CS.
