NAIROBI, Kenya – In a move to curb government spending, President William Ruto has announced the suspension of all non-essential travel by state officers.
This directive was part of a broader set of austerity measures revealed during the President’s State of the Nation address on Friday.
“All non-essential travel by state officers is hereby suspended,” President Ruto declared, emphasizing the need for stringent financial discipline within the government.
The suspension comes in the wake of the government’s withdrawal of the 2024/25 finance bill, a decision prompted by widespread protests across the nation.
The bill’s retraction has necessitated immediate budget adjustments to align with the reduced revenue projections.
The President’s luxurious trips abroad, often involving private jets, have particularly drawn criticism and fueled public outcry.
By suspending non-essential travel, President Ruto aims to redirect resources and address the financial concerns voiced by the public including employment of JSS teachers and intern doctors.
