NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement has restored its M-Pesa Paybill service after a temporary disruption, days before the group’s planned political rallies.
The movement confirmed that the Paybill number 3033049 was operational again after supporters reported challenges making contributions through the platform.
The fundraising platform had experienced a temporary interruption on Thursday, July 23, with Linda Mwananchi saying the issue was caused by technical challenges affecting the Paybill payment system and that it was engaging the service provider to resolve the matter.
Sifuna later confirmed that the service had been restored as the movement continued mobilising supporters ahead of its planned nationwide engagements.
The Paybill was launched as part of Linda Mwananchi’s grassroots fundraising drive, with supporters asked to contribute towards the movement’s activities and logistics. Since the initiative is not registered as a political party, Sifuna said the account was registered under his name.
The fundraising drive had attracted thousands of contributions, with organisers reporting that the movement had collected more than Sh2.2 million within 36 hours after launching the appeal.
The restoration comes as Linda Mwananchi prepares for more political activities, including rallies aimed at building support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement has been holding public engagements across the country as part of its grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi team have maintained that the initiative is funded by ordinary Kenyans, with the senator saying contributions would be accounted for publicly.
The Paybill disruption had sparked debate among supporters and political observers, with Sifuna earlier alleging that the service had been interfered with through external pressure.
The claim was not independently verified, while the movement initially described the issue as a technical problem.
