THIKA, Kenya- Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has renewed calls for opposition unity, saying both the Linda Mwananchi movement and the camp associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua believe they have the capacity to defeat President William Ruto even if they contest separately in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi tour in Thika on Sunday, Sifuna said the two formations share a common objective of unseating the current administration but acknowledged that pursuing separate political paths could delay that outcome.
According to the Nairobi senator, leaders in both camps understand that unity would provide a quicker and more effective route to achieving political change.
“We all believe we can defeat Ruto on our own, but we also know it will take longer if we remain divided,” Sifuna told supporters during the rally.
His remarks come amid growing discussions about possible cooperation between the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement and the broader opposition coalition spearheaded by Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and Fred Matiang’i.
The two groups have recently conducted parallel mobilisation campaigns across different regions while maintaining open channels of engagement.
Sifuna noted that supporters from both camps have consistently urged leaders to work together, arguing that a united opposition would stand a stronger chance of mounting a formidable challenge against President Ruto in 2027.
The comments come as the Linda Mwananchi movement stages its first major political tour of the Mt Kenya region, with rallies planned in Thika and Githurai.
The movement has been expanding its footprint beyond its traditional support bases through a series of nationwide tours focused on governance, accountability and the cost of living.
Political realignments have intensified in recent months as opposition leaders seek to consolidate support ahead of the next election cycle. While no formal coalition agreement has been announced, leaders from both sides have repeatedly hinted at the possibility of working together under a common political vehicle.
